No, he can't survive in the middle of the desert with nothing but a knife. However, he does know how to keep himself alive in a tight spot. Though he lacks actual knowledge, his instincts are often enough to help him see a bad situation through. When you spend most of your life on the streets, you learn how to take care of yourself. His lack of education is made up for by what is known by many as 'street smarts'. While not exactly a smooth talker, he is often able to reason himself out of trouble. When that fails, he can be quite resourceful. Though sometimes his 'resourcefulness' boils down to fighting dirty. This combined with his stubbornness and determination, he can force himself to push through when it feels all hope is lost. All and all, he's just a tough kid to kill.

Appearance:
The boy stood at only five feet and two inches, adding to his already unintimidating appearance. Blonde hair was surprisingly well kept, though still grimy to the touch. Emerald eyes were empty, as if he had fought the battle of life and was beaten to the ground. Though upon closer examination one could see a fire still burning inside. Shelby was extremely scrawny, hardly anything but skin and bones. Though his legs were surprisingly strong. At least, in comparison to his scrawny arms. It was a miracle that he managed to hold himself together. While he is mostly clean, plenty of dirt could usually be found in easy to forget places. Such as under the neck and behind the ears.

Personality:
Shelby is a very simple young man. Not by ways of intelligence, but rather what he needs. He is just as happy scraping by with what he has as he would be having it at surplus. Despite his manner of living, he is also a very proud person. The thought that he is forced to survive by living off pity of others makes him sick to his stomach. Fortunately he knows where to draw the line between proud and foolish, and is alive today because of it. There is a stark contrast between matters of survival and other situations, however. While he may be able to give in in such away, he makes up for it by refusing to back down on any other subject. Perhaps it's a form of compensation for his forced compromise. Then again it could just be his need to control some factor of his life.
